USCCE Engagement Events

In response to the rapidly changing world that influences how we engage and learn and in part due to COVID-19, in April 2020 the USCCE launched the Engagement Events series to provide virtual opportunities for conversation and collaboration among coach educators and coach developers across sports and sport contexts worldwide

USCCE Engagement Events are committed to providing professionals in coach education and coach development opportunities to discuss common challenges and share strategies for providing quality educational support to sport coaching professionals.

Examining how skill acquisition is, should and could be taught in coaching education

This is a free and open event - registration opens here 2 weeks before the event

Develop the sport skills of athletes is one of the most important functions of a sport coach. Recent advances in our understanding of skill acquisition have challenged many of the traditional assumptions and best practices that guide the way coaches organize practices and teach athletic skills. This event will explore how motor learning research evidence might challenge coach educators to rethink how they present key concepts like focus of attention, practice organization, methods of verbal instruction, and the use of task constraint modifications like equipment, rules, goals, and playing dimensions. The presentation will be led by Dr. Andy Driska and Dr. Rajiv Ranganathan from Michigan State University (Department of Kinesiology) and will include time for discussion and Q&A.

December 2, 2021 from 1:00-2:00pm ET

A critical examination of care in coaching

This is a free and open event registration opens here 2 weeks before the event

Mental health and care are timely and essential topics in sport. What is the role of the coach in athlete mental well-being?  What essential knowledge about mental health should a coach know relative to their coaching context?  What skills and resources do coaching professionals need to best support athletes?  What about the coaches themselves and their mental well-being?  This engagement event will encourage attendees to explore how we as coach educations and coach developers can support and educate coaches relative to mental health care for their athletes and themselves.

April 22, 2021 from 8:00-9:00pm ET
